Should Christmas decorations be taken down by February 1? Any social blunders that I, I mean, someone might commit in not doing so? This is a totally hypothetical question that has no connection to what is or is not still showing in my apartment. No siree. There is nothing I saw in my apartment upon coming home from work today that made me think of this post.

Dude, what constitutes as a "Christmas decoration"? If it means little trees with white lights on them...still got 'em up in our house :) Girl, you can do whatever you want! :) Heck, if you keep them up all year you don't have to put them up again next December....eh?
I think it depends on what the decorations are, and where they are. For example, our neighbors are trying to sell their house, but they still haven't taken their Christmas lights down. And the lights are kind of falling off the house in places and looking totally scraggly. I think that those type of decorations should be down by the first week of Jan, especially if you're trying to sell your house!
But if you have just festive, not totally Christmas-y decorations, like white lights or sparkly things, or bows - things that could be considered "seasonal" versus strictly Christmas, then I think you could leave those up longer.
In the end, YOU are the one who lives in your house, so if you like your decorations, enjoy them! :)

Well, it's not so much a matter of wanting to leave it up and feeling silly as a result...it's just that I've been away and busy and haven't gotten to it yet. I don't want to haul the boxes out and start putting things away if I can't wrap the task up in one go.
I do enjoy looking at the trees though... :-)
I have a friend who has fake pencil Christmas trees in almost every room of her house and she changes the decorations to fit the current season; that seems ok with me. Otherwise, Christmas decorations come down after Jan 6, The Epiphany (and also Uncle Bob's b'day!). Auntie Chris
I think it's time for them to come down... For me, it's kind of a mental thing, just feeling held back that I haven't completely "cleaned up" from Christmas. I do, however, leave them up until whenever in January that I feel like taking them down. I think it's a bit silly when people rush to take them down the day after Christmas!
In Scotland the official date for removing Christmas decorations from your house (inside and out) is the 'twelfth day of Christmas' - so that would be the 6th of January.

i would say...take them down when you get a chance, but don't worry about it too much. there are many other things in life to worry about (or i should say "take care of"). i personally start to get bothered by my own christmas decorations if they are left up too long. i think it is a personal preference though. if they make you happy, leave them up! :)
